Me llamo (my name is) Maria. I am a native Spanish speaking tutor.
I was born in Barcelona in the Northeast of Spain, where my mother originates from, making us both “Catalanas”. My dad was from the North of Spain, a small town in Vizcaya (El Pais Vasco/Euskadi). I was brought up hearing Catalan at home but I have to admit I have never learned this language I only have managed to learn words and make little sentences just by overhearing my mum talking to other family members.
A few days after I was born, we moved to Madrid, where I learned Castellano (the main Spanish language). I was raised in North Madrid (near the Benaveu Football Stadium) with my two older sisters. I started learning English at my Primary School and also while I completed my Nursery Nurse studies.
When I was 21 I moved to Ireland to continue to learn English and after a few years traveling around the island and working, I came to England with my son and his Dad. I have brought up my son bilingual, which has helped him with his Spanish GCSE.
I have 6 years of experience teaching Spanish to young children from 18 months up to age 11 years old. This has helped me to decide to expand my teaching to help children over 12 years old and adults continue or start their journey of learning Spanish.
